How to Network Like a Pro
Jan 30, 2024If you’re a business owner or executive, networking is a part of the job description. You’ve gotta do it in order to stay in front of potential clients and stay “plugged in.”
Extroverts typically don’t have a problem with networking, while introverts tend to shrink at the thought of it.
I lead a networking group in Dallas called Chicks in Charge and have met some of the BEST networkers (Elisa Ellis - this one’s for you!) and wanted to share some tips and tricks that I’ve learned from some of the masters out there who have taught me a thing or two….
🔶 Set Clear Goals: Define what it is you want to achieve at your networking event. Identify the types of individuals or organizations you want to connect with and the outcomes you hope to achieve.
🔶 Know How To Pitch Yourself: If you’re going to an event, guess what? People are going to ask what you do. Be prepared. Have your elevator pitch ready to roll.
🔶 The Law of Reciprocity: Believe me when I say the law of reciprocity (when you give - others give back) works almost always. When you meet someone new and have a great connection, offer to help connect them to someone else and be generous with your knowledge and resources.
🔶 Follow Up and Stay Connected: After meeting someone for the first time, follow up with them. Send personalized messages telling them you enjoyed meeting them and look forward to the next meetup. Nurture these relationships over time by periodically reaching out and staying connected.
